Why You'll Love These Chicken Patties

    • Taste - These chicken patties are lean yet packed with flavor.
    • Texture - The patties are light and tender.
    • Effort - This recipe is easy. We provide simple instructions to make them on both the stovetop and grill.
    • Time - It takes about 10 minutes to make the patties and about 15 minutes to cook them.

    Key Ingredients

Ingredients to make chicken patties, ground chicken, spinach, parsley, kosher salt, paprika, garlic, black pepper.
    • Lean ground chicken - We prefer 92% lean chicken but you can also fattier lean chicken for more flavor.
    • Spinach - Spinach is a healthy addition with an earthy flavor.
    • Garlic cloves and parsley - Garlic and parsley add an herbaceous accent.
    • Paprika - Paprika adds a little smokiness.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    Substitutions/Variations

    • No spinach - Omit the spinach if you prefer a simpler chicken flavor.
    • Spicy - If your stomach can handle it, add chili powder or red pepper flakes to make the patties spicy.
    • Onion powder - Add a little onion powder for a pungent sweet flavor.
    • Garlic powder - If you prefer a less pungent garlic flavor, use garlic powder instead of fresh minced garlic.
    • Turkey - Use ground turkey instead of ground chicken if you prefer.

    How to Make Chicken Patties

Steps to make spinach chicken patties, mix ground chicken, seasoning, garlic, and spinach; add olive oil to a pan and shape meat into patties.

    Stovetop

    • Mix meat and form chicken patties - In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, spinach, garlic, parsley, kosher salt, black pepper, and paprika. Then use your hands or a fork to gently mix until combined, careful to not over mix. (Photo 1 and 2)
    • Form patties - Heat a skillet or griddle on medium heat and add the avocado oil. Form the ground chicken mixture into 4 equal-sized 1-inch thick patties and use your thumb to make an indentation in the middle of each patty. (Photo 3 and 4)
Steps to make juicy spinach chicken patties, cook patties on each side in avocado oil until lightly browned.
    • Cook patties - After the skillet heats for about 2 minutes, place the patties on the pan. If using a small pan, work in batches so as to not overcrowd the pan. (Photo 5 and 6)
    • Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the patties are golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F), then serve. (Photo 7 and 8)

    Grill

    • Mix meat and form chicken patties - In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, spinach, garlic, parsley, kosher salt, black pepper, and paprika. Then use your hands to gently mix until combined, careful to not over mix. Form the ground chicken mixture into 4 equal-sized patties and use your thumb to make an indentation in the middle of each patty.
    • Prep the grill - Prepare the grill medium heat, about 375°-450°F, and oil the grates. Use an oil with a high smoke point, such as avocado oil. Once hot, place the chicken patties on the grill and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side. The internal temperature should reach 165°F before serving.

Pro tip - If grilling, use an instant-read thermometer to avoid burning yourself.

What to Serve with Chicken Spinach Patties

    Cooking Tips

    • Make all the patties the same size so they cook evenly.
    • Don't over mix the patty mixture or it will dry out.
    • Add other chopped veggies besides like onions, bell peppers, or grated zucchini to add moisture.

    Recipe FAQs

How do I stop the chicken patty mixture from sticking to my hands?

Wetting you hands should prevent the patty mixture from sticking.

How do I keep the patties moist?

Avoid over-mixing them and cooking them on too high of heat. If you want your patties extra moist, cook the patties with the lid on (on the stovetop) for the first side. Then remove the lid when you cook the other side.
